Overview

What Wind Damage Roof Repair Includes

Wind is the storm damage Central Texas homeowners underestimate. Hail gets the attention, but the cold fronts that come across the Blackland Prairie in spring and fall, the outflow from a summer thunderstorm, and the straight-line winds that hit Manor, Hutto and Jarrell with nothing to slow them take shingles off roofs every year. Sometimes it is obvious: shingles in the yard, a bare patch on the slope that faced the storm. More often it is a crease you cannot see from the ground, where the shingle bent back in the gust and the seal strip broke, and it lifts a little more with every front until it leaks.

We inspect every slope, not just the one you can see from the driveway, and photograph lifted, creased and missing shingles with the storm date noted. A few shingles is a repair, priced in writing: replace what is gone, hand-seal what lifted, and nail for wind. Damage across whole slopes is usually an insurance claim, and we give you the photos and scope to file it. Either way the roof gets repaired so it holds, with the ridge caps, edges and vents the next front will test checked while we are up there.

FAQ

Wind Damage Roof Repair FAQs

Is wind damage covered by insurance?

Usually, under the windstorm and hail part of a Texas homeowner policy. The question is whether the damage is larger than your deductible. A few shingles is not; whole slopes often is. We tell you which after the inspection.

Why did only one slope lose shingles?

Wind damage is directional. The slope that faced the storm and the edges where wind gets under the shingles take the hit. That is also why a good inspection walks every slope instead of looking from the ground.

Can creased shingles be repaired?

A creased shingle has a broken mat and will not reseal. It is replaced, not glued back down. Shingles that lifted without creasing can usually be hand-sealed.
