Is emergency tarping covered by insurance?

Usually. Most Texas homeowner policies cover reasonable steps to prevent further damage, which is what a tarp is. Keep our invoice and photos for your claim.

What should I do right now while I wait?

Put a bucket under the drip, move anything valuable, and if water is near a light or outlet, turn off that breaker. If the ceiling is bulging, poke a small hole to let it drain into the bucket rather than letting the drywall come down. Do not get on the roof.
